here’s one for your suggestion box. put anti-histamines on pbs! i don’t care if i have to get a prescription from my doctor for them, i want to be able to get them at the same price i can get the rest of my drugs with my health care card (well, the asthma drugs, i suspect the other kind being on pbs is even further away). i need anti-histamines to keep my asthma under control. without them, in this city, in spring, no amount of preventative or relieving drugs can keep me without symptoms. i can take ventolin till i’m shaking like a paint-mixer, i’ll still get a tight chest. this is the worst fucking city in the world for allergies and asthma, and the one feeds into the other. there are, thankfully, i discovered today, new generic brands of most anti-histamines. that takes the price of 30 telfasts from about 34 bucks to 26. 30 tablets. at my current rate, that’s one comfortable month or two half comfortable months. which, at a tablet a day (which isn’t what i take, though i could quite happily do so) would be $312 a year. if it were on pbs, it would be around $40-50. i’m pretty sure i’m not the only person in sydney who has this problem. fuckers.
